My website needed a facelift... so I spent a few days and redesigned it completely.

I think my favorite type of commercial photography is interiors and architecture. After a few years of doing this for work, I have come to realize this is the kind of commissioned work I would like to pursue in the future as well. I created a new blog, where I will post some of my work, and hopefully tips and tricks as well.
Please feel free to share it, comment on it, ask questions, anything!

A while ago, a scammer posted an assistant job ad on Craigslist Los Angeles forum with the contact email address sandra.rugina@yahoo.com. I do not own that email address. Since then I got around 20 emails on my email from people wondering if they got the right person; and I keep getting more.

Now it's been around 2 weeks and today I just got an email from someone who actually paid for a registration fee for this scammer, so they actually lost money... And another one who seems to have got a bill from the scammer, with a US return address.

I just want to say that if it does not come from MY email address, it is not true. I use a couple of email addresses, you can find the main one on my website or Facebook fan page. This bogus email address does not belong to me.

I should perhaps thank the scammer for gaining me a few new fans on my pages, but I am sorry for all the ones who thought it was a legit job opening.

So, what do you do in a situation like this? If you think of it, anyone can print a name on a paper and a bogus address and ask for money... I have been told that Craigslist is quite a popular place for scam ads and worse. Where is the ever-watchful NSA in this? :p

What We Are is the sum of everything that we have ever said, done, felt. A sum of memories and strings of feelings and sensations tied to those memories. When we forget, those strings are damaged and our memory is broken. Thoughts inspired by a new Danny Boyle movie, Trance.

So beautiful. If you watch anything at all today. Watch this.

Marina Abramovic and Ulay started an intense love story in the 70s. When they felt the relationship was ending, they walked the Great Wall of China, each from one end, meeting for one last big hug in the middle and never seeing each other again.

At her 2010 MoMa show Marina shared a minute of silence with each stranger who sat in front of her. Ulay arrived without her knowing and this is what happened:

Mostly true, with the exception of a few points. I have absolutely zero interest in shooting with analog, no penis-envy, usually no camera-envy either, but a serious case of photo-envy (disqualifies #28), no moleskin notebook (wtheck are those?), I am happy with less than $500 Xmas presents and am anything BUT a hoarder.

Otherwise, creepily accurate.

1. They rather hold their bulky camera, than hold hands with you.
2. On a romantic date, you'll watch the sun go down and think "Wow this is gorgeous" and they'll go "mirror lock, tripod, and stop down f/8 at 1/125."
3. You'll never be able to enjoy tv, movies, or magazines because they'll point out all the visual flaws.
4. They like to sit in obscure coffee shops and voyeuristically watch people for great lengths of time.
5. If you're taking a walk outside and you come across some "interesting light" they will make you sit/stand/pose in public so that they can take a photo.
6. You'll never get to enjoy freshly cooked meals because they'll spend 15 minutes taking 20 variations of the same dish with their iPhone.
7. They get angry when your friends go up to them and say "I am interested in photography, can you recommend a good camera for me? Nothing professional I just want to take pretty pictures."
8. You'll wait longer for them to finish analyzing art in a museum than you'll wait at the dmv
9. Same goes with old used bookstores.
10. When you think they're giving you their undivided attention, they're really wondering how they could fix you with a little Clone Tool and Patch Tool.
11. Or they are actually using you to not look so creepy as they people watch everything going on around you.
12. They rather drop $1,000+ on new glass than a purse for you.
13. You can't take a photo with them without taking at least five more.
14. If you ask them if you look fat, they'll say "don't worry I can photoshop you later."
15. They'll never photoshop something simple for you if the content is not up to their "standards."
16. That photo they randomly took of you yesterday? Good luck getting them to send it to you.
17. They spend all their time on the computer (and not for porn.)
18. They can't have a normal conversation with throwing acronyms and random numbers.
19. They still use film cameras.
20. They spend a lot of time with people cooler than you i.e. models, actors, musicians, successful rich people.
21. They'll be fussy over the position of a common household object, like a coffee cup.
22. They won't return your calls or text messages, but you can bet they're still posting pics on Instagram.
23. They like watching old films that you've never heard or will ever understand.
24. They like looking at weird things in general.
25. Instead of having penis-envy, they have camera-gear-envy.
26. If there's a natural disaster in a far away land, they're already on a plane going over there.
27. Everything is watermarked.
28. They think everyone else's photos suck.
29. They want to color correct a lot of scenes from Twilight and Jersey Shore.
30. They hate rainbows, especially ones spinning in a circle.
31. Whenever you're in a group talking and the conversation goes deep, they're taking notes in some form of Moleskine.
32. They use over priced Moleskine notebooks.
33. They like trespassing into old abandoned buildings filled with health hazards.
34. They always want to show a new photo they took, but don't really care if you like it or not.
35. They hate your n00bie friend's new artsy profile picture.
36. Bright, sunny days make them sad, but cloudy, overcast days are apparently great!
37. They'll take you into places that have "culture" as well a high chance of getting mugged.
38. Your birthday present will be a portrait that they've taken of you.
39. You can't go anywhere new without them stopping to take a photo of everything and anything.
40. They will always bug you to be a test subject.
41. Nothing can ever be naturally pretty, everything must be fixed in Photoshop.
42. Bringing their camera means, bringing 50lbs of equipment.
43. If you break any of their things on accident, you'll owe them thousands of dollars.
44. You can't get them a birthday/Christmas present without spending at least $500
45. They are natural hoarders, collecting and keeping piles of old newspapers, packaging, magazines, and other things that "inspire" them.
46. They are weird and geeky.
47. They have hard drives of photos, but probably have printed 10 images.
48. They are always secretly judging your creativity.
49. If you're ever in auto mode, they laugh at you.
50. They orgasm every time they learn a new lighting technique.

I wasn't too convinced about uploading more in this style to the gallery, so putting them here instead.

So, the result of some time on my hands, bad weather, need of promo pictures, some health issues, lack of models... Photos, styling and makeup by yours truly. Jewelry as well, byVellamo.

I have been creating new things recently... Here is one of them (mosaic turquoise stone with sterling silver and tourmaline):

I have been seeing stuff about Black Friday and Cyber Monday for a while now... So I joined the trend: get a 20% discount on your order in my ByVellamo Etsy shop., using coupon code BLFRD2012 at checkout.

On a different note... Certainly is Black Friday... every day! Enough with this dark-zero-sunshine-rainy-drizzly-cloudy-windy-someone-forgot-to-turn-on-lights days! Can you bring on the snow already???

Some dare to let themselves day dream because it is all that they can do, some bury themselves in work.
Some pretend that everything is ok. No, in fact, we all pretend that everything is ok.
Some forgive, because they still love, and it would hurt too much to leave, some do not forgive, because they still love, and it would hurt too much to stay.
Some lie to avoid inflicting pain, some tell the truth, to avoid inflicting pain anyway, later.
Some think it is over, some know it.
Some melt away missing, some do not dare to do so.
Some seek someone to listen "I can't take it anymore", some stay quiet and smile, thinking that if you do not say it out aloud, you do not feel it.
Some still wait for a sign, some have long since shut down their phones, because anyway, who should call, does not, and who does call, does not matter anyway.

My Kitty died...
Poison, the vet said. They tried to save her, gave her i.v. and treatment, but she did not make it. And this was my Kitty, always so nice to everyone, the same Kitty who never ate anything else except her special Friskies Wellbeing... I have a hard time believing it and a hard time trying to explain it to myself.
They think it was a rat she hunted, a rat which had eaten poison. A thing to note though, strong poisons are illegal in the E.U. Legal poisons do not kill a cat who has eaten/hunted an already poisoned rat. But who cares about that in Romania? The average Gheorghe only cares to buy the strongest shit on the market and spread it around. I sincerely hope that moron's garden and house is INFESTED with diseased rats!
And once more, I hate the way things work in Romania... that principle so many people go by: "Just get the strongest stuff, it doesn't matter if it's not legal. If it kills other creatures too, tough luck."
Rest in peace, Kitty...

I have been working quite hard during recent weeks on getting a new magazine out. It is called Design Jewelry and Accessories Magazine

I am starting this new magazine with a desire to present beautiful original jewelry and accessory designs from all over the world, as well as some tips for online marketing for web shops.

Each issue will include a few main features, jewelry and accessories. It will also address beginner tips for making your own jewelry and online shops where you can buy supplies.

Design Jewelry and Accessories issue #1 features as main designer Pasi Torkkeli, from Finland. On the cover of the first issue you can see the necklace worn by Tarja Turunen (ex Nightwish singer) in the video I Walk Alone. The first issue has a total of 64 pages.

Check it out and tell your friends! For a limited time only, the first issue is available for download for 99c!!

For now, it is available only for iPads and iPhones, but I hope I can make it available for other devices as well in the future!

New Year, fresh work, inspiration

Thu Jan 19, 2012, 2:57 AM

I am so slow at updating my :devart:, at least no one can complain I fill their message inbox with stuff :)

New work projects happening. I am now a magazine photographer. Pretty much what I wanted. Shooting for one magazine so far. It used to be a magazine based more on body building, but it is now switching more towards the fitness side. I took the cover photo and the main article pictures in a very cool location. They will appear in the magazine on February 14th and I can upload them to my portfolio as well, after that.

I will be sure uploading some photos here and sharing the link with your guys. For the first time, the magazine will also be available online and also in English.

On the other hand, I am making more and more jewelry and my webshop seems to slowly take off.

Etsy

Mon Nov 14, 2011, 7:52 AM

I spend quite little time on :devart: nowadays. But I will try to update the gallery as often as I can. My latest collection of surreal photos with red trees is available for sale as prints and delivery worldwide in my Behindmyblueeyes Etsy shop.

After some browsing around and some thinking, I have joined an online community called Etsy.

If you haven't heard of it, it is a community where people buy and sell handmade, vintage and supplies products. For sellers, it charges $0.2 for each listing which will last for 4 months and 3.5% of the sale price.

I have browsed some shops there and the artwork looks really nice and the prices are really good too. And the fact that you can pay with Paypal only makes it better. So for buyers it is really easy. Check it out.

If you have heard of it, I would love to hear about your experiences and what you think about it.

This small shop which I set up will be completely separate from byVellamo and the items I will sell there will be exclusive and one-of-a-kind or limited editions designed and handmade by myself and of course available to be shipped anywhere in the world. I will add some of my own designs to byVellamo, but in that case they will not be available on Etsy.

You can check it out and tell me what you think:

I have been using :devart:'s portfolio for couple of years. I liked the simple layout with no unnecessary info, but since my subscription is about to expire, I thought it might be time for a change. Not sure if I want to renew the subscription, lately I found myself doing most of my photo browsing on 500px and even made an account there.

Check out my new website and tell me what you think.

Thank you Petrus! I love the new look!

Webshop

Wed Sep 7, 2011, 3:08 AM

I have opened a web shop, byvellamo.com selling jewelry. All the items are 925 silver. It contains bracelets, pendants, ear-rings, rings, necklaces, with Swarovski crystals, Murano glass and gemstones. For now, it is for Finland only, but it will soon be available for the rest of EU as well.

Murano glass is a famous product of the Venetian island of Murano. Located off the shore of Venice, Italy, Murano has been a commercial port as far back as the 7th century. By the 10th century, the city had become well known for its glassmakers, who created unique Murano glass. The glass contains a thin filigree layer of silver or gold inside, giving it a beautiful shine.

To create crystal glass that lets light refract in a rainbow spectrum, Swarovski coats some of its products with special metallic chemical coatings. Aurora Borealis, or "AB", is one of the most popular coatings, and gives the surface a rainbow appearance.Other coatings are named by the company, Crystal Transmission, Volcano, Aurum, and Dorado. Coatings may be applied to only part of an object; others are coated twice, and thus are designated AB 2X, Dorado 2X etc.
