A while ago, a scammer posted an assistant job ad on Craigslist Los Angeles forum with the contact email address email@example.com. I do not own that email address. Since then I got around 20 emails on my email from people wondering if they got the right person; and I keep getting more.
Now it's been around 2 weeks and today I just got an email from someone who actually paid for a registration fee for this scammer, so they actually lost money... And another one who seems to have got a bill from the scammer, with a US return address.
I just want to say that if it does not come from MY email address, it is not true. I use a couple of email addresses, you can find the main one on my website or Facebook fan page. This bogus email address does not belong to me.
I should perhaps thank the scammer for gaining me a few new fans on my pages, but I am sorry for all the ones who thought it was a legit job opening.
So, what do you do in a situation like this? If you think of it, anyone can print a name on a paper and a bogus address and ask for money... I have been told that Craigslist is quite a popular place for scam ads and worse. Where is the ever-watchful NSA in this?
